Brandon Trask - A Lovely Mess
If you like the surreal cinematic work of Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam, then you owe it to yourself to check out the disturbing yet strangely compelling world of Brandon Trask. I met Brandon while checking out the Second Annual AI Horror Film Competition sponsored by Curious Refuge. With nearly 100 AI horror flicks to choose from, you'd think it would be hard for one entry to jump out at me. But that's what happened when I cued up Digital Flesh, one of Brandon's entries, which contained a 15-second compendium of creepy images leading to an old man in a wheel chair who pronounces, "Welcome to my nightmare, where even your screams are forgotten." By the end of this AI short, I was so hooked that I quickly hit the link that led to Brandon's YouTube channel, while hoping that Digital Flesh wasn't a one-hit wonder. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that A Lovely Mess was check full of 20+ wonderfully weird short AI videos. After watching them all, I knew I had to reach out to Brandon to see if he'd agree to an interview.
When I asked Brandon what he hoped to accomplish with his YouTube channel, here's what he had to say: "My favorite Friday night ritual as a kid was Creature Features with the legendary Bob Wilkins! My best friend Jeff and I would grab snacks and climb into our fort, where we’d stay up late watching B-horror flicks. Bob Wilkins would casually chat about the weird and wild films, dropping trivia bombs that made the night even more epic. Those were amazing times! For my YouTube page, I want to recreate that vibe—showing freaky, indie films every Friday night, complete with a quirky, Creature Features-style setup as a tribute to Bob Wilkins. Spooky, weird, and just plain fun!"
Below are several of my favorite Brandon Trask Creature Features:Digital Flesh
